Winner takes all at the 2009 Food Challenge Awards
At a lavish Black Suit Gala Night in fashionable Darling Harbour, Tamborine Mountain Distillery cleaned up the awards in the Alcoholic Beverage Category.
To win Highly Commended for their Hibiscus Liqueur is a wonderful result. This liqueur is proving very popular with mixologists around Australia. But to Win the Top Honours of Best in the Category for the Wattle Toffee Liqueur “is nothing short of fantastic, brilliant!” a gobsmacked Michael Ward said after being crowned king of the night.
The award winning Wattle Toffee Liqueur is made from the flavours of wattle seed, pecan nuts and a warming hint of caramel.
This is the second year in a row that this World Class Distillery has won Top Honours in this Prestigious Competition. No other company has achieved winning both awards.
Dressed in his Sunday best of colourful shirt, shorts, high socks and Blundstone boots he had the audience in stitches during his acceptance speech. There’s nothing ordinary about this bloke, with his ecentric long hair, crazy man personality.
He breaks every rule in the book regarding etiquette, but he must be doing something right as the Tamborine Mountain Distillery is Australia's most awarded Distillery and Liquor brand, having won an impressive 99 International Awards from San Francisco, Chicago, London, Germany, Belgium & Austria for their Liqueurs, Vodkas, Eau de Vie & Spirits.

Hibiscus Liqueur
This liqueur is a vibrant and floral 20% Alc/Volume beverage made from wild rosellas by Tamborine Mountain Distillery.
In addition to their extensive range of 70-plus products, the company was keen to meet specific demands from the cocktail bar/small boutique club industry.
The only Australian-made hibiscus liqueur, the beverage is both sweet and sour, yet subtle on the palette. Large quantities of hibiscus (sabdariffa) are infused to create the deep red natural colour and rich texture.
Tamborine Mountain Distillery’s Hibiscus Liqueur was launched in January 2009 at the cellar door; a national launch is envisaged shortly.
Wattle Toffee Liqueur
Made from flavours and ingredients derived from the Australian bush, Wattle Toffee Liqueur is a unique sweet and delicate liqueur 24% Alc/Volume in strength and designed to enjoy neat.
Highlighting indigenous flavours, this liqueur was created to introduce a high quality product to the competitive liquor market. It is the newest addition to Tamborine Mountain Distillery’s range and incorporates a smooth blend of Australian wattle seeds and pecan nuts, with a warm hint of caramel over a base spirit distilled from sugar cane.
The product was launched in 2008 and is available at the distillery’s cellar door and via the internet.
